SCHOOL PROFILE

Brookside Elementary School is proud to be a “home away from home” for approximately 400 students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth, making it the largest elementary school in the Westwood Regional School District.

As part of our mission, we aim to deliver challenging, responsive, and equitable learning experiences to every child. We aim to cultivate curious, kind, and responsible citizens who are prepared to meet the challenges of the future using the skills and knowledge they’re learning today. Our exceptional faculty is committed to cultivating learning environments for our students that nurture their social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.

Each day students are taught English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. In keeping with our belief in the education of the whole child, Brookside students also receive weekly instruction in Spanish, art, music, media (library), and physical education. Every student also has the opportunity to receive specialized support, as needed, through services and programs such as Gifted and Talented, ESL (English as a Second Language), academic support, special education and more.

We continue to incorporate Responsive Classroom practices into daily classroom instruction as part of a district-wide curriculum initiative. The model, which is an evidence-based approach to teaching and discipline, focuses on delivering engaging academics, building positive community, effective classroom management, and fostering developmental awareness. Our teachers have participated in extensive training on the Responsive Classroom model.

One of Brookside’s greatest assets is the tremendous level of support provided by our PTO and the greater Westwood community. By volunteering their time, effort, and expertise, members of the PTO enrich our students’ lives both in and outside of the classroom. Special events, school assemblies, and extra-curricular activities are all made possible by our partnership.

Brookside Elementary School is, without a doubt, a special place to work and learn each day. We are excited to begin the 2024-2025 school year with each member of our school community. We look forward to working together to continue to strengthen and build our tradition of excellence in education each and every day.
