From Common Application Class of 2026: Common App Essay Prompts will remain the same for 2025–2026. Students will also see 2 changes to the optional “Additional information” questions as of August 1, 2025. First, the current “Community disruption” question will be updated to a “Challenges and circumstances” question to capture a broader range of impacts students may experience. Second, the “Additional information” question word limit will be reduced. By sharing these updates now, students will have the time they need to reflect on their personal stories and begin thinking about what they want to share with colleges.
