The Middle School Student Council will be hosting a theme day once a month. For the month of November we chose to honor Veterans Day by wearing red, white and blue or patriotic clothing to show our appreciation.

Here you see middle school students presenting to their peers on plate boundaries. Great job by all!

Last Wednesday, 11/8, Mr. DeBlasio's Design Thinking class took a trip to the American Dream Mall. The class had an hourlong meeting with Don Ghermezian (The CEO of Triple Five Group who owns the mall), the General Manager, and members of his marketing team at their corporate headquarters. The class received their four-part challenge, which they will work on over the next 8-9 weeks and the students will then return and present their solution to the group. Afterward, the class got a firsthand tour of the facility which is one of the three largest entertainment complexes in the Northern Hemisphere! Amazing experience for our students!

7th Grade WRMS Mathematics teachers worked with Dr. Panorkou from PRISM and Ms. Calderón on ways to incorporate algebra tiles into our curriculum. Using algebra tiles provides a visual way for students to solve expressions and equations!

We celebrate acts of kindness everyday, but today we added an extra ingredient! JFG kicked off World Kindness Day spreading positivity across our halls with our buddies! There's "No-Buddy" like our BUDDIES! #JustFocusonGrowing

Surprise! After our assembly launch with well known artist Marco Santini, children submitted words and feelings describing their Berkeley home. Here is what they see and feel each day at Berkeley! (Next surprise is scheduled later in the school year.) Thank you Berkeley PSO!

Today we recognize World Kindness Day. A reminder that small acts of kindness have a big impact! Today and always you can...Smile, Write a note (or email) of thanks, Compliment someone, Volunteer, Hold the door open for someone, Practice patience, Offer to help at home, Thank a teacher, Thank your parent, Donate time, money, clothes, books, Call your grandparent or relative, Stand up for a friend, Laugh and Be kind to yourself.

Ms. Wirchansky's first-grade class is using creativity and collaboration to focus on gratitude. Their beautiful thankful trees help them express gratitude and reflect on what brings them joy. #JustFocusonGrowing

Fostering a love of reading includes building our confidence and literacy skills! Here's a kindergarten student reading aloud to her friends! #JustFocusonGrowing 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Just another Wednesday at the middle school - breakfast from our PSO, an author visit from Ed Gerety, testing out our mousetrap powered vehicles, and the administrative team starting their book club. Thank you to everyone who made today so special!

Today, business students at Westwood HS learned various ways to tie a tie. We learned the four-in-hand, half Windsor, Windsor, and Shell knots. Tying a tie is a life skill!

Andy Xhillari, a senior in our Work Based Learning program, has been interning at CH Technologies in Westwood. He recently assisted on a project that will be presented to Johns Hopkins University. After high school, Andy will be pursuing a career in engineering.

Congratulations to our October Student of the Month, Sean Morrison (Grade 11). Nominated by Ms. Polzer. Great job!

We are so lucky to have the best PTO! Thank you to all our volunteers who made today's bagel sale possible. #BESTatBrookside

Westwood Regional High School acknowledged Veterans Day by honoring local veterans from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6192. The school facilitated a panel discussion with veterans who served in The Gulf War and the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Commander Jim Gerbig, a Naval Academy graduate, who served in the Gulf War participated in the panel along with Army Veterans Shaun Hutchinson (Master Sergeant) and Vincent Tirri (Lieutenant Colonel). Both Hutchinson and Tirri served in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Also, included in the panel discussion was Mrs. Cheryl Hodges, mother of Marine Sergeant Christopher Hrbek who graduated from Westwood Regional High School and was killed serving in Afghanistan. The panelists answered questions about their service from students. The personal accounts shared by the local veterans had a meaningful impact on our students. Our students were fully engaged as the panelists offered their insights and reflections on the war through their unique lens as direct participants. True heroes, thank you for your service!

Our WRMS World Language teachers, Ms. Calderón, and presenter Dr. Goebel participated in a hands-on workshop about how to create classroom experiences through a number of current, language teaching techniques, as well as, examining the language theories in which they are based.

A special shout out to our school nurse, Mrs. Alvarez, who was a special guest at the Girl Scout Brownie troop meeting this week. She helped the girls earn their First Aid badge! Thanks for being the #BESTatBrookside!

Thank you Berkeley PSO for helping us get through the night with parent conferences....with special treats!

If our walls could talk they would share stories of love, laughter, and the moments that have made JFG a home! Our classrooms are a place of growth, learning, and inspiration! #JustFocusonGrowing
