Mr. Connelly had so much fun watching our Academic Decathlon Team (WACADECA) compete on Saturday. We came in 2nd place in the Super Quiz!!! We will know the Final results on Wednesday. Westwood Regional High School was proud to host the state tournament. Go Cards!

The High School Debate Team did a fantastic job during Thursday’s tournament at Old Tappan High School. Congratulations to Daniel Shotkin for earning 1st place best speaker and to Angel Morales for earning 3rd place best speaker. It has been a wonderful season for our team and we can’t wait for Friday’s championship tournament at Becton High School. Go Cards!!

Last High School Ski Club trip of the season! Great time had by all!

In Mr. DePeri's AP Computer Science class, students worked on creating codes in a program which allows any user and a friend to play a game of Tic-Tac-Toe! Each program provides accurate instructions on how to play each round of the game. Great job students!

Mr. Oki Gunawan, IBM electrical engineer, came in with a grab bag of magnetism demonstrations to Mr. Chen's Physics class showing the fundamentals of magnetism and how it powers our technology in transportation. Our very own Nate Gunawan led the demonstrations!

Students in Mrs. Kemple's Biology classes were challenged to create mitosis posters illustrating the phases of cell division without drawing a single structure. Cell membrane, nuclear membrane, spindle fibers, chromatin, chromosomes, centromeres, centrioles all had to be represented by some type of arts and crafts material that included yarn, ribbon, beads, poms, pipe cleaners, straws etc. Each "cell" needs to display the events that take place during that phase. It's interesting to see the different ways that students choose to represent each cellular structure. Creative energy was flowing and fun was had by all! Great mid-year scientific change up!"

Thank you to our students for presenting "How to be a Good Ally" to our staff yesterday! Great job!

Students in Mr. Chen's Physics class are shocked to find their hair sticking up when they place their hands on the Van de Graaf generator - a machine quickly that fills the surface of a metal sphere with negative charges.

Students in Mr. Chen's Physics class use some common household materials: string, paper clips and scotch tape to make an "electric compass" that can detect the electric field around charged objects.

A sports psychologist came to talk to our wrestling team. Gene Zannetti owns a company called "Wrestling Mindset," and has clients ranging from Olympians to beginners. He spent time speaking about various subjects, including:
1) Staying in the present and not focusing on past mistakes or future opponents.
2) Not putting events/matches on a pedestal. Making something seem special puts added pressure on you and you perform worse. Go into each situation the same way.
3) Focus on controlling what you can control - effort, attitude and aggressiveness. Everything else is out of your control.
4) "Eyes in front, ready to hunt" and the predator mentality towards scoring points.
5) Don't worry about what your opponent is good at. Focus on your strengths and what you want to do. Let your opponent worry about you, not the other way around.
6) Celebrate each other and don't compare yourselves to each other. Everyone is on a different journey - be the best you can personally be.
7) Keep things loose. The opportunity to compete is supposed to be fun. Take your mind off things by listening to happy music or watching comedies leading up to competition if you're feeling nervous.

Mr. Attanasio, Mr.Gatens, Ms. Fasano, Ms. Frohlich, and Mr. Ortiz, attended PV's Consortium PD day with the region's PE/Health teachers on strategizing instruction based on students' needs. Our Cardinal team is at work!
