Westwood Regional High School acknowledged Veterans Day by honoring local veterans from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6192. The school facilitated a panel discussion with veterans who served in The Gulf War and the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Commander Jim Gerbig, a Naval Academy graduate, who served in the Gulf War participated in the panel along with Army Veterans Shaun Hutchinson (Master Sergeant) and Vincent Tirri (Lieutenant Colonel). Both Hutchinson and Tirri served in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Also, included in the panel discussion was Mrs. Cheryl Hodges, mother of Marine Sergeant Christopher Hrbek who graduated from Westwood Regional High School and was killed serving in Afghanistan. The panelists answered questions about their service from students. The personal accounts shared by the local veterans had a meaningful impact on our students. Our students were fully engaged as the panelists offered their insights and reflections on the war through their unique lens as direct participants. True heroes, thank you for your service!
