AP Biology students tasted sweet, salty and sour items before and after sipping on some Gymnema Tea to determine what taste the tea interferes with - sugar! They couldn’t taste sugar at all afterwards and the sour patch kids were VERY sour! The tea temporarily blocks the sugar receptors on taste buds. This is part of our unit on signal transduction and an excuse to eat some candy in class!
