Westwood School Counseling invites K-8 Parents to "Parent's Guide to Growth Mindset” The program provides an opportunity to learn strategies to understand, develop, and promote a growth mindset for yourself and your children. Care Plus clinicians will teach effective communication strategies and coping skills to help you support your child. They will include information related to your child’s development and how this impacts their ability to meet appropriate milestones and regulate their emotions. During this presentation, you will learn how to approach your child mindfully and decrease conflict in setting expectations and helping your child succeed. Middle School Workshop Series starts tomorrow. The workshops are available: to any student during ASL (dates listed on flyer). Students do not need to sign up- just drop into the school counseling office with your belongings.
A big thank you to the PSO who helped to create a new educational opportunity. Through a mini grant, Ms. Morrison was able to order Virtual Reality Glasses for her World History class. The students learned about Gothic Cathedrals in Medieval Europe and took a virtual tour!
This week we celebrate our school counselors for National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). I would like to personally thank our Westwood Regional School Counselors. Each counselor works to provide their students with the utmost attention and concern. They are dedicated, caring, professional, and advocate for their students each and every day.
WWRSD Special Education Parents Advisory Group (SEPAG) is hosting another virtual meeting next Wednesday, February 7th, 6pm. The NJ Dept. of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities, will present "Navigating the DDD System."
This one-hour webinar will include a Q&A session and will explain the types of services, support and opportunities available after schooling ends. The DDD encourages families to start thinking about this transition around age 16 (but encourages families with any age children/young adults to attend).

Black History Month is an annual celebration of the contributions and accomplishments of Black Americans who have helped shaped our history. The 2024 theme, “African Americans and the Arts,” explores the African American influence on visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary and other forms of cultural expression. The WWRSD celebrates Black History Month.

Ms. Calderón, Ms. Hughes, & Mrs. . Vélez attended PD on how to build a thinking classroom in math. Building Thinking K-12 Classrooms in Mathematics helps teachers implement 14 optimal practices for thinking that create an ideal setting for deep mathematics learning to occur.
For the second year in a row, Westwood Regional Middle School has earned the distinction of "Kindness Certified School" due to our participation in the Great Kindness Challenge. Way to go students, staff, and families!
7th grade science students are finishing up their Ecology Unit. One of their favorite labs involved using microscopes to compare populations of Paramecium that have been growing in environments with different amounts of food.
